IUCN and the UN Decade Ecosystem Restoration Hub: Success Stories and Guidance

A 5-Part Webinar Series for IUCN Members, Commissions, and Partners

Background

The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030) is a rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world, for the benefit of people and nature. It aims to halt the degradation of ecosystems and restore them to achieve global goals. Only with healthy ecosystems can we enhance people’s livelihoods, counteract climate change, and stop the collapse of biodiversity.

The UN Decade Ecosystem Restoration Hub is a digital platform that enables restoration implementers to showcase their contributions to the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. It allows practitioners to connect with others in the global restoration community while spotlighting many of the incredible restoration efforts already underway globally.

Overview

In 2026, the IUCN Secretariat will host a five-part webinar series titled IUCN and the UN Decade Ecosystem Restoration Hub: Success Stories and Guidance. This series will provide the Union with information on the UN Decade Ecosystem Restoration Hub, as well as examples of IUCN restoration initiatives which are catalogued on this platform. More broadly, the series will provide insight into restoration priorities and progress across regions in the context of the UN Decade.

A total of five webinars will take place, each focusing on a specific geographic region. The sessions will provide practical information on the UN Decade Ecosystem Restoration Hub while also bringing to life inspiring success stories of restoration action from across a range of ecosystems. Registration is available through IUCN Engage

By attending this series, IUCN Members, Commissions, and partners will gain a better understanding of how the UN Decade Ecosystem Restoration Hub offers the opportunity to for impactful restoration work to be recognised and amplified globally. Moreover, these sessions will facilitate IUCN Secretariat, Members, Commissions, and partners to connect and explore shared restoration priorities.

The 90-minute sessions will be hosted on Zoom and delivered primarily in English, with simultaneous interpretation made available in all UN official languages.
