Volunteer Opportunity: Co-Lead, Southern and Eastern Africa Focal Point— IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Management (CEM)

This communication serves to advertise the volunteer position of  Southern and Eastern Africa Focal Point co-Lead in IUCN CEM. 

The key responsibility will be to assist the region’s Lead (Focal Point – Thusego S. Setswammung)  in discharging his mandate for the region for the 2026 – 2029 cycle.

About the Role

As Co-Lead, one will work directly with the Lead (Thusego S. Setswammung) to coordinate and grow the group. This is a volunteer leadership position, but very impactful. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Fulfilling the activities of the region’s work plans, which include assisting in planning and facilitating virtual group meetings.

  • Coordinating communications with group members and the broader CEM network.

  • Supporting the region’s membership development and engagement.

  • Liaising with CEM's Steering Committee focal point and other technical groups as needed.

  • Contributing to any other business aligned with CEM's mandate, relevant to the region.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Professional qualification in ecosystem management and related disciplines.

  • Strong proficiency in written and spoken English

  • Proficiency with MS Office, Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive)

  • Reliable internet connection 

  • Ability to commit volunteer time consistently, at least 2 hours per day, per weekday
