IUCN Resolution WCC 2020 Res 123 mandated an inclusive and participatory process for development of an IUCN policy on synthetic biology in relation to nature conservation. A first-ever IUCN "Citizens' Assembly" was convened as part of this inclusive and participatory process, delivering its report and recommendations in January 2024.
