The IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Management (CEM) is seeking dedicated and motivated volunteers to serve as Country Leads. This is an opportunity to contribute to a global network of experts working to promote healthy ecosystems and sustainable development while strengthening CEM's presence and impact within your country.
About the Role
As a Country Lead, you will act as the focal point for CEM activities in your country. Working closely with the Regional Lead and Regional Co-Lead, you will help connect experts, identify opportunities for collaboration, and support initiatives that advance ecosystem management and conservation.
This is a volunteer leadership role for professionals who are committed to making a meaningful contribution to conservation through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and action.
Key Responsibilities
As a Country Lead, you will:
- Promote the mission and activities of the IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Management within your country.
- Identify and help mobilise national and international projects that align with CEM priorities, including ecosystem restoration, biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and Nature-based Solutions.
- Support the Regional Lead and Regional Co-Lead in implementing regional priorities and achieving the Commission's objectives.
- Build and strengthen partnerships with government institutions, universities, research organisations, NGOs, local communities, youth groups, and the private sector.
- Encourage professionals and early-career experts to join and actively participate in CEM.
Coordinate national CEM activities, meetings, webinars, and knowledge-sharing events. - Share information on opportunities, achievements, and emerging environmental issues from your country.
- Contribute ideas that strengthen regional collaboration and support the growth of CEM across the region.
Who Should Apply?

- Experience in ecosystem management, biodiversity conservation, forestry, environmental science, natural resource management, climate change, or related fields.
- Strong communication, networking, and leadership skills.
- A collaborative spirit and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- A genuine interest in volunteering and supporting environmental sustainability.
Current IUCN CEM regional members are encouraged to apply. Outstanding applicants who are not yet members may also be considered, subject to the Commission's membership requirements.
