Plastic Waste Free Island Blueprint: A journey to zero waste

Alejandra MORALES ARCHILA

This webinar aims to present the Plastic Waste Free Islands (PWFI) Blueprint and explore its application as a practical framework for addressing plastic pollution in Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

Friday, 17 July 2026 | 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. AST | Virtual Webinar via Zoom

The session will examine how the Blueprint can support countries in strengthening efforts to reduce plastic leakage through improved policy development, stakeholder collaboration, waste management planning, and circular economy approaches. Drawing on experiences from island contexts, the webinar will highlight the importance of coordinated action across government, the private sector, civil society, and regional partners in addressing the complex challenges associated with plastic waste.

The webinar will also provide an opportunity for dialogue on the policy, institutional, and operational considerations necessary to advance sustainable and locally appropriate solutions. Particular attention will be given to the role of cross-sector collaboration in supporting national priorities related to environmental management, sustainable tourism, fisheries, and economic resilience.

The webinar forms part of ongoing efforts under the Closing the Caribbean Plastic Tap Project to support integrated and sustainable approaches to plastic waste management across the region. This is a regional initiative supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), and implemented by IUCN ORMACC.
