Pre-COP17 Symposium: Delivering KMGBF Target 3 Through Diversified Area-Based Conservation

Ruben KHACHATRYAN

We are pleased to announce that we are planning a high-level Pre-COP17 Global Symposium which will explore how diversified area-based conservation approaches can accelerate delivery of the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework Target 3.

Bringing together governments, IUCN Members, NGOs, practitioners, and donors, the conference will focus on the recognition and integration of Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs), privately managed protected areas, and community-led conservation models.

The symposium will contribute to a Global White Paper addressed to CBD Parties and feed into official COP17 processes, highlighting inclusive, results-oriented conservation governance that complements state-designated protected areas and supports biodiversity, climate resilience, and sustainable land use.

** Note that the dates, times and locations are subject to change and are yet to be finalized. Updates will be posted here.
