The European Union, as a member of CITES, has adopted an ambitious legislative framework governing the wildlife trade. As a hub of wildlife trafficking, the EU has had to adapt its legislation to its unique status as a single market and adopt a set of EU Wildlife Trade Regulations. Despite this, Europe is considered to be the third largest importer of illegal wildlife in the world.
IUCN Members are working on innovative scientific and legal measures in the countries of origin and destination. These advances will be presented at the event.
