The Bony Fish Fossils of the Western Limfjord preserves an exceptional fossil record, including some of the world’s best-preserved fossil fish assemblages.
The new UNESCO World Heritage site provides outstanding evidence of the early evolution of modern bony fishes following the end-Cretaceous mass extinction. Its sediments also record major episodes of climate change and global warming, offering important insights into how ecosystems responded to rapid environmental change and documenting the remarkable biodiversity of the early Eocene biosphere.
