Join us for the launch of Managing MIDAs 2.0 and discover the publication's key findings and recommendations.
Date and time: 12 November 2026, 10:00-11:15 CEST
Across the world, an increasing number of places hold more than one international designation, such as Ramsar Site, World Heritage site, Biosphere Reserve, UNESCO Global Geopark or FAO’s Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS). These Multi-Internationally Designated Areas (MIDAs) can create unique opportunities for conservation, sustainable development, knowledge exchange and international cooperation. At the same time, they often face complex governance, management, monitoring and reporting challenges.
To help address these challenges and opportunities, IUCN, with the support of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and in collaboration with the secretariats of the international designation programmes, has updated its landmark Managing MIDAs guidance, ten years after the publication of the first edition.
Drawing on a decade of experience, new case studies, emerging good practices and evolving global policy frameworks, Managing MIDAs 2.0 explores how MIDAs can contribute to international biodiversity, climate and sustainable development goals, and provides updated recommendations to support their planning, governance, management and monitoring.
During this webinar, participants will:
- Discover the key findings and recommendations of Managing MIDAs 2.0;
- Hear reflections from international designation programmes;
- Explore current challenges and opportunities in the governance and management of MIDAs;
- Discuss future priorities for strengthening cooperation across designation systems and governance levels.
We hope to see many of you at the webinar!
