Conservation behaviour change is a nascent discipline, but one which has great applicability to many of today’s conservation challenges. By using lessons drawn from social psychology, behavioural economics, and healthcare interventions, this approach has huge potential to shape human behaviour and ultimately secure conservation outcomes. In this talk, we will explore the fundamentals of behaviour change and how an array of techniques can be used to change human behaviour. We will work through a number of relevant case studies from across conservation to help practitioners understand what involving behaviour change might look like for different conservation projects, and discuss the key tools and considerations for behaviour change as it might be used in the context of human-primate interactions. The talk will conclude with a focus on how to engage with behaviour change as a discipline, and guidance regarding the tools and resources which are available for practitioners who are interested in knowing more.
