
Join IUCN CEC and partners on Saturday May 4th from 9am to 4pm at UCLA Lab School for the 1st Nature-Based Education Summit, where we will learn about an inclusive ecosystem of approaches that brings nature into the core of play, learning, and resilience.
The agenda includes Richard Louv, author of the Bestseller “Last Child in the Woods: Saving our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder,” Pediatrician and Child Advocate Dannette Glassy, representing the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a Keynote speech from Dune Lankard, president of Native Conservancy, and Indigenous leader from Alaska and a key person in the Children's Trust challenge to a law promoting fossil fuel development infringes on the constitutional rights of young residents to a healthy environment. They round out an incredible lineup of educators, children’s rights advocates, and grassroots leaders who will offer insights and actionable advice on Nature-based Education, an inclusive ecosystem of approaches that brings nature into the core of play, learning, and resilience.

Presented by Alana Foundation and the UCLA School of Education & Information Studies, in partnership with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)’s Commission on Education and Communication, EARTHDAY.ORG, and #NatureForAll, this summit will gather educators, designers, policymakers, and changemakers to showcase research and inspiring cases to strengthen the connection between children and nature, improve academic achievement, support physical and mental health for people of all ages, enhance climate resiliency in communities, and lead to care for the Earth while taking in perspectives from the Global North and Global South.
